4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound but Fragile, October 30, 2010

This is a very lightweight and crisp instrument. The sound is very precise. Fingering requires more care than a heavier instrument. I need to make really good, tight finger contact on each note. The instrument is less forgiving of fingering misses than the heavier Waltons instrument I was raised on. The payoff is a fantastic sound, very nice treble and overtones easily obtained by skilled musicians. The aluminum it is made of is quite thin so no strenuous hiking or dropping upon the pub floors is recommended. Insist that your seller package this fine and fragile instrument carefully when shipping! The horribly ugly yellow sticker is easily removed with basic household solvents (like fingernail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, or English whiskey). Removal of the sticker reveals an elegant and completely dull black-finished instrument that allows the musician to take center stage rather than the whistle.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!, April 27, 2011

Ugh. What can I say. I hate to complain because it was only four bucks. The sound is terrible, airy and hollow and you have to play it just right to avoid off notes and squeaks. I've played the penny whistle for 10 years and own about half a dozen other models. This one compares unfavorably to all of them, except one of the Clarkes with a poorly fitted wooden mouthpiece. I can get this one to sound half-way decent if I really work at it; but what's the point when I have other whistles that sound great and play easily?

I don't even know what to do with this thing. It's not worth the trouble to return it, and I would hate to give it to a beginner; that would be cruel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cheap whistle, July 11, 2010

Since they are marketed so cheap I grabbed 2, and I'm glad I did so. One of them came in a poorer quality, having an airy sense when hitting the second octave. I'm sure I can work around this however, if not by altering my playing then by using the many tweaking guides from the internet.
It's an incredibly light, but in turn delicate, whistle since it's made of aluminum. It gives a nice bright tone, but starts to quiver when playing its very highest notes. A raspy transition from 1st to 2nd octaves. A perfect beginner model, simple to learn and easy to use. It is lots of fun and definately worth the 4 or so dollars. If you are looking for something quiet though, do not take this, rather go for a Low D whistle because this can get quite loud.
