I'm not proficient with wind instruments so I can't give an honest review of its tonal quality but as an amateur guitarist, it sounds good enough to play the ocarina songs from Zelda.It's plain glossy black, the paint job is very nice with no real noticeable imperfections on the outside of the ocarina. Shipping was speedy, the ocarina was boxed with care and had packing peanuts to protect it from bumps on its journey. Also came with a small pamphlet with a few songs on it.
