I figured out the main problem was the reed, so I took a chance on these replacement reeds. Wow, what a difference! I can now play my shenhai! Essential for New Shehnai Players, This review is from: Shehnai/Mizmar Reed & Staple, 2 Pack These reeds produce a wonderful sound! When I first received my instrument and could not get a single sound out of it I was rather disheartened . Having never played or even held a shehnai before , I assumed that it was my technique at fault. But as soon as I soaked one of these bad boy reeds and started buzzing, I caught on immediately! If you have purchased a shehnai but can't get the reed to vibrate and sound, spend few bucks on a 2 pack of these and you'll be charming naagas in no time.If anyone has preparation information for the other type of reed (that generally ships w/ the instrument as the default reed), please educate us as there seems to be no information available online for the shehnai newbie.
