The offset on the finger holes much improves the ability to keep them fully closed and the tone resonant. I play all sorts of whistles, recorders, and shakuhachi and this instrument has moved to the top of the list of my favorites. Any whistle player who wants to make really enchanting music just needs one of Nick's instruments and the Slow Airs book by Canainn or McCullough's.The look and construction are also first rate. I've played a few whistles though not nearly every maker out there but enough to know great value when I see it. You will pay significantly more for a whistle that approaches this level of detail, finish, and design. In these tight times this is an outstanding value. Also, all my communications with Nick have been prompt and professional. He takes his craft quite seriously. They are all great whistles although I have not put enough time in on the Low D and F to get the best out of them yet. Nick stands behind his products and if you have problem he will take care of it. It is unfortunate though that when people review whistles, new players may get the idea that every review has full merit. Of all the instruments that I play or am familiar with, the whistle is the most controversial among it's fans. It is wise not to start playing whistle on a low whistle because of their difficulties but people do it all the time and then cry foul against the makers. There is no all around perfect whistle for everybody so you just have to get over that. Every whistle player I know has WHOA Disorder. That is Whistle Obsession Acquisition disorder.
