Valves work smoothly, slides are free and don't bind. It's built slightly heavier than I had anticipated so construction and finish of the nickle plating is excellent. We brought the Cecilio along with our Bach Stradivarus to our weekly music lesson and showed the Cecilio Mendini to our master trumpet instructor. When he saw it, he asked, "new pocket trumpet, I see?"...when he saw it his eyes light up and you could see him wanting to try it out. I asked him to play it and play it he did! It has a bright tone, not quite as deep and rich as the Bach, but heck, it's an inexpensive pocket trumpet! All in all, it sounds very good. The instructor finished with a smile and said, "it's really impressive". His only comment was that I should play it in the HS band during games, but I was to use the Bach for auditions. Now he has decided to join the high school band as a trumpeteer, although he has to use the school's trumpet for the band. The pocket trumpet is just right for him to practice at home and he can carry it in a backpack when he rides his bicycle to my house for practice. One bad thing- the blue lacquer finish began peeling off almost as soon as he started playing it; it is now half blue and half gold.
