| 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful  A beautiful student "step up" flute but could have even greater tonal colours for the full distance, By This review is from: Yamaha YFL-361 Series Intermediate Flute YFL-361H B Foot, Offset G Solid & reliable - for a primary school beginner or first time music learner, it is hard to go past a Yamaha flute for it's ease of blowing & control (volume/tone), build quality, robustness & resale value. For this purpose the low end YFL221 or 211 (nickel silver plated) fulfills that purpose. I have known some who have gone on to Grade 8 on that flute but this is not ideal as it limits a students development in that it's tonal range is limited and lacks the greater depth found in more advanced flutes - thus impeding the student's learning, mastery and capability of rendering a piece of music in its full potential.All Yamaha flutes in the 200 (silver plated), 300 (solid silver headjoint only) & 400 (solid silver body & footjoint as well) series are essentially of the same design with the difference being the varying amount of silver content in the flute.
