My 6 grade daughter wanted an upgrade to intermediate level after she played on school band for the last 2 years. I researched flutes and Powell Sonate caught my attention. This picture didn't show a case, but it did come with a case just like pictured in 501, and this one has pointed arms vs the Y arms 501 has. (OMG, I can't believe that I know what Y arm even means now : ) My daughter tried Gemeinhardt, Jupiter, Yamaha and Haynes at the music shops but she so far likes this one the best. Not too pitchy and has amazing tone quality. She loved it. It is pricy comparing to her first beginner flute, but after hearing my daughter playing with this one.... It was definitely worth the investment. I can't think of a better way to encourage her to play more in junior high next year. A better flute like this does make a whole world of difference.
