5.0 out of 5 stars A great gift for any Zelda fan, December 10, 2008
This review is from: 12 Hole Ocarina From Legend of Zelda
I purchased this awhile ago from STL ocarinas, a site which makes many different kinds of ocarinas. This one is a tenor ocarina in C (concert pitch), made of blue-stained ceramic. It has a written range of A3 to F5 *including flats and sharps* It sounds one octave higher than written, so the tonal range is from A4 (above middle C on the piano) to F6. The "Ocarina of Time" is a tenor and this replica covers most of the tonal range.
Just a few comparisons before I go on:
-The lowest note in the "Serenade of Water" (A button on the N64 controller) is the low C on this ocarina. The lowest note the instrument can play is the A below that.
-The ocarina cannot play the top note in the "Sun's Song", but comes close.

***Technical stuff***

There are 12 holes on the instrument. Two are for the thumbs, then there are five for each hand. The fingering scheme takes awhile to get used to. Low A, B-flat, B, and C# require covering one or both of two very small... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging, but I love it!, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: 12 Hole Ocarina From Legend of Zelda
Well, I got this first and foremost because I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan, but I soon fell in love with the ocarina and how beautiful it can sound if played right. Once shipped, it came extremely quickly, within four days of placing the order, and the product itself looked exactly like the picture. If you would like to know what it sounds like, go to [...], and find this ocarina under the Fans of Zelda tab, there's a video there showing the ocarina being played.

I recieved the ocarina two hours ago, and already I can play three songs, albiet, not very well! But it's a good start. Some of the finger positions can take some time getting used to if this is your first ocarina, as it is mine. I found the guide books helpful, if not slightly confusing at first. The first just teaches you the various notes, and the numbers assigned to them, and gives you a few simple songs such as Happy Birthday and Jingle Bells to learn. The second is the book with the zelda songs. Reading off... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The only reason it's 5* because there's no 6*, July 14, 2011
This review is from: 12 Hole Ocarina From Legend of Zelda
I'm not a professional at all. But for this ocarina, that is completely irrelevant. Though I'm not a professional, I'm certain I play quite well on this after just a couple of days! Just FYI, buy this on the stlocarina official site, it's cheaper.

Pros;
It's sinfully beautiful and looks almost like the Ocarina of Time. It's made solid and tuned quite well. The manual that's included with it helps a bit. Sounds wonderful! When you have proper breath control, it sounds even better. For adults, it should be easy to handle and to cover the holes. This is definitely not for kids though. Finally, it's perfect for beginners and it's able to take them into intermediary techniques at the very least. This ocarina is loud enough to not get drowned out by other instruments but it's still soft enough to sound beautiful like I mentioned before.

Cons;
It MAY be fragile... I haven't dropped it nor do I plan on it, so I can't say for sure. You can start as a beginner... Read more
